It was a good night for the underdogs at the NHL Draft Lottery on Monday.

The New York Islanders moved up to the No. 1 pick after starting the night with the tenth-best odds to earn the first-overall pick.

Then it was the Utah Hockey Club’s turn to move up the draft board, as they won the lottery’s second draw after entering the lottery with the 14th-best odds.

However, because of the lottery rules, a team can only move up a maximum of 10 spots, so Utah will select fourth at the 2025 NHL Draft.

Which means the San Jose Sharks, who started the night with a 25.5 per cent chance to pick No. 1, will only slide one spot to No. 2. The Chicago Blackhawks will pick No. 3.

The 2025 Draft will take place June 27-28 on Sportsnet.

Here is how the first 16 picks will be ordered after the lottery.

1. New York Islanders
2. San Jose Sharks
3. Chicago Blackhawks
4. Utah Hockey Club
5. Nashville Predators
6. Philadelphia Flyers
7. Boston Bruins
8. Seattle Kraken
9. Buffalo Sabres
10. Anaheim Ducks
11. Pittsburgh Penguins
12. New York Rangers
13. Detroit Red Wings
14. Columbus Blue Jackets
15. Vancouver Canucks
16. Montreal Canadiens (acquired in trade with Calgary Flames)
